Aquarian Sadhana

The Aquarian Sadhana is a beautiful two and a half hour practice given to us by Yogi Bhajan for the dawning of the Aquarian Age.

Prayer mudra, Aquarian SadhanaIt is practised in the amrit vela, the early hours before the sun rises, when the energy is clear and pure (amrit is nectar). This is when the veil between our world and the other worlds is at its thinnest.  In UK we generally practise sadhana from 05.00 – 07.30.  Try it! You will feel the difference in your practice at this hour.

We dress in white and cover our heads. The format of the Aquarian Sadhana is to start with a recitation of the Japji, the Song of the Soul, one of the sacred Sikh texts. It is recited in Gurmukhi, the vibratory language in which it is written. It is shabd, which means that the meaning, the essence, is transmitted by the sound current as well as by the words.

Next, there is a kundalini yoga kriya giving some physical exercise to wake up our bodies.

We complete the Aquarian Sadhana with 62 minutes of chanting a set of 7 mantras specified by Yogi Bhajan. These are as follows:

  • Long Ek Ong Kar
  • Wah Yantee
  • Mul Mantra
  • Sat Siri Siri Akal
  • Rakhe Rakhanhar
  • Wahe Guru Wahe Jio
  • Guru Ram Das
