Say “Yes!” to Life

Say “Yes!” to Life

Dive in, go deeper, you are the ocean

There have been some strong energies passing through at the start of 2014, have you been feeling the waves too? I have found that my yoga and meditation practice has helped me to maintain perspective. Rather than drowning, I have been able to observe the waves washing over me, cleansing me, inviting their force to declutter the past from my cells. Read more about the Sodarshan Chakra Kriya below.

Did you see ‘The Secret Life of Walter Mitty’ film and watch Walter leap from the helicopter into the freezing ocean?  Ironically/comically, he was so focussed on his mission that he missed the help that was at hand in the form of a rowing boat, but he said “Yes!” to life and jumped in feet first.

'You are not a drop in the ocean, you are the entire ocean in a drop' ~ Rumi

My encouragement is to say Yes! to life, to say Yes! to whatever is here and now. Accept the now, embrace it, and it will give you wings.

“If we say ‘no’ to where we are now we will never find the ‘yes’ we’re looking for”
~ Jeff Foster.

Watch Jeff Foster speaking at greater length on this invitation to say “Yes!” in this video:

Here is another tender and encouraging passage from Jeff Foster:

Let your heart break into a million pieces today, if it wants to.
Allow yourself to cry today, if tears come.
Feel vulnerable today, if vulnerability visits.
Allow all of life to move through you.
~ Jeff Foster

If you’re finding it’s all a bit too full on and you’re feeling ‘burnt’ by your present experience of what life is bringing you, take heart. For it is part of the process, it is a step towards the manifestion of your destiny. I found these sage words by Matt Licata (Facebook, love it or hate it, is bringing me so much wisdom and in perfect divine timing):

When will my burning end? Have I not suffered enough? Have I not loved enough, prayed enough, meditated enough […] ?

You are not alone, friend. Will you consider for just a moment that this burning, this fire, and this longing within you, IS the response to your most primordial prayer, to the prayer that has carried you into this sacred human world?
~Matt Licata

The mystic poets knew what was what. Kabir affirms “It is the spirit of the quest which helps”. To lift my spirit, I return time and again to the words of Hafiz and feel heartened:

This place where you are right now, God circled on a map for you.
Wherever you eyes and arms and heart can move, against the earth and sky,
The Beloved has bowed there.
Our Beloved has bowed there knowing you were coming.
~ Hafiz

You can listen to a beautiful and powerful rendition of these words chanted by Tim Chalice, devotional singer from Bristol who offers kirtan in Bristol, Bath & wider afield.

Our present-day luminary, Eckhart Tolle, says:

“Whatever the present moment contains, accept it as if you had chosen it… This will miraculously transform your whole life.”
~ Eckhart Tolle

So you see, like it or not, we chose it all. And the sooner we recognise that and take responsibility for it, the smoother our ride through this lifetime. We hold the reins of our destiny, and when we come back to our ‘Sat Nam’, our true essence, we can live it. This is one of the gifts of Kundalini Yoga.

I have found that practising the Sodarshan Chakra Kriya Meditation (aiming for 40 days) has been particularly helpful to navigate this time. The meditation develops the Neutral Mind, the 4th of the spiritual bodies, creating a neutral space of balance above the stories of the ego, beyond the positives and negatives. It builds inner strength and allows us to conquer our shadow so that we can be the light.

The music I used in my meditation practice was ‘Wahe Guru for Sodarshan Chakra Kriya’ by Gurucharan Singh Khalsa & Gurusangat Singh. There are many versions of the mantra Wahe Guru, but this one is ideal as it repeats only Wahe Guru (there are no Wahe Jio’s) and, better still, the music counts the 16 repetitions of the mantra for you.  You can download the track from SpiritVoyage.com here >>

You can see Yogi Bhajan talking about the mantra Wahe Guru, kissing and the Sodarshan Chakra Kriya Meditation on this video >>

May you ride the waves in a boat (or surfboard) named equanimity or dive deep below the surface

Sat nam, Wahe Guru!
